River Descriptions: Firehole River
General Characteristics
- Unique ecosystem with geysers, hot springs, and stunning scenery.
- Riffles, long pools, and glides throughout the flow.
- Can be crowded due to popularity.
Fishery
- Abundant rainbow and brown trout (mostly 10″, football-shaped).
- Great dry fly opportunities year-round (except summer).
- Diverse hatches: White Miller Caddis, typical caddis, Blue-winged Olives (BWOs).
Fishing Season
- Spring and fall: Ideal due to comfortable water temperatures.
- Summer (Mid June-Labor Day): Far to warm to fish most years with the water temperature nearing 80 degrees.
- Check current regulations and water conditions before heading out.
