*Salmonflies and Golden Stone populations are only found in more canyonous steep gradiant areas of these rivers.
Current Report
Soda Butte is fishing well this fall, although with flows approaching single digits, most of the fish are concentrated in the lower two to three miles of the river. That being said, there is still plenty of good fishing to be had, with smaller hatches of BWOs and Drake Mackerels providing some dry fly opportunities. During non-hatch periods, hopper-dropper fishing can be effective, with skinny-bodied mayfly nymphs dropped underneath.

- Expect smaller fish in the areas above Ice Box Canyon and larger fish more near the Lamar River Confluence.

- Insect emergence is impacted by rapid elevation change and climate.
- Solitude not guaranteed due to popularity.
- Portions of this river may remained closed in 2024 due to road construction caused by the 2022 flood.
